June 17, North Vanvouver

Wow, yesterday was a real go-go-go day! After breakfast we headed out to Stanley Park. To get there we need to go thru downtown. Have been noticing in Vancouver and in Victoria that the road system is severely lagging, traffic is crazy everywhere and always and has well outgrown the infrastructure, especially the highways. So, the 20-min trip to the park took the better part of an hour.
Of course, the park is fabulous! We were quite amazed even tho we only had time to to the perimeter circle drive and stop for a short walk and officially stick our toes into the frigid Pacific.
By then it was lunchtime so we hopped over the Lions Gate bridge and found a cute little Vietnamese place for a bowl of soup. then, off to Capilano to the famous suspension bridge (wow!) and the 'treetop adventure' walk along a series of elevated boardwalks and mini-suspension bridges strung high up between the trees.
Around 4:00 we made phone contact with Joanne's long-time friend Teresa and headed off to PoCo (Port Coquitlam). There was more than a decade's worth of news to get caught up on. Teresa is in the middle of a major renovate/redecorate job at her house and it's looking very promising. And, we were treated to a great dinner at the King Mongolian restaurant in downtown PoCo. Got back to the B&B about 9:30. ( ... So much for the hopes of a quiet relaxing day ...)
Just an observation - there seems to be a really strong German calling here, as well as a lot of money and an appetite for German cars. Wherever we go in BC, we bump into German tourists constantly. And the number of Mercedes, Audis, and BMWs on the roads (and VWs) is noticeable and remarkable. When you talk to the Germans, they all came here to see the 'wilderness'. Many have rented a RV and are doing a grand and lengthy tour.
Oh, yeah, in case you were concerned, our rented VW didn't get bombed, burned, or rolled, but the locals are some upset about the massive damage done by the hooligans!
My tea is gone and I gotta go and try to raise the ol' girl out of la-la-land.
